(no subject)

so as anyone who knows me and my lame attempts at keeping a journal usually go, they're figured out that I have left this journal. I've even left the site actually. I love lj's icons and such but I just think it's starting to get old. I joined blogspot a while ago and I've had a hiatus period but I'm back to updating it somewhat evenly. it's http://literarylust.blogspot.com/
so.. ciao <3

Dancing Queen

For some reason I've been watching a lot of videos featuring dancing. For a lack of something better to post I thought I'd show them here.

I believe this is from the show So You Think You Can Dance. Fast forward the video to around 2:15 for the dancing to start. The first two minutes are the girl dancer talking about her 'asian' alter ego. Give me a break. But the dancing is really interesting.

I think this one is from the same show as the first. The dancing reminds me of the first video in the way the dancers play off each other. This one is more on the sexy side and I want the girl's outfit!

This one is actually a music video from Iron and Wine called 'Boy With A Coin'. It features flamingo dancing. When I used to live in Houston there was a restaurant that would have flamingo dancing on friday nights. It's breathtaking to watch whether filmed or in person.

Love Books

Back to the Books

I seem to have commitment issues with my livejournal. Oh well. So in a month I start fall classes at Clark College. I'm taking Astronomy, Music Appreciation, and Women's Studies. I'm really looking forward to Astronomy even though I know it's most likely going to be ridiculously difficult. The course description claimed 'for non-science majors' however I have learned that statement to be sometimes false. Women's Studies should be VERY interesting as I have talked my friend John into taking it with me. He will probably be the only guy in the class, however considering his gayness I'm not sure it'd count.

As far as art, i've done a few things but not much. I've been slowly getting back into it again. I'm still in one of my reading phases where I go through around 2-3 books a week. This is the only sketch i've done so far this week and it's unfinished.

I'm all freaking out because my sis Meaghan starts college in.... two days. OMG I AM SO OOOLLLD. Oh, and Meaghan if you're reading this no, I haven't given up on drawing Nathaniel. He will come... again and again and... Sorry, couldn't resist. The next Anita book needs to come out NOW.
I've been doing a lot of henna lately though in addition to copious amounts of reading and working. My whole right leg has these GIANT flowers on them. I've been thinking of getting it turned into a tattoo. But then I don't know if I'd grow bored with having the same sort of flowery tattoo every other girl has. I'm so indecisive. :P

Whine and Bitch

Jeeeezy chreezy I have alot of stuff to do. My rough draft for english class is due tomorrow, and the same day is a test in physical science. Also, I need to work on about 4 hours of watercolor studies for a picture due June 3rd X_X.

The big thing though is that Friday at noon (so long as there's no delays) I will be on a 4 hour plane ride to Houston, Texas. FOUR HOURS!!!! I'm not sure if my sanity can handle that much time on an airplane. Or the heat, for that matter. I've gotten kinda used to 70 degree weather @_@. I come back that sunday for a four and a half hour flight.
I will end up like Howl there.

Angry Ang

Bunnies and Abstract art

I think me and my classmate in watercolor class are in the same boat. We just don't get most abstract art. I understand the idea and the concepts about it, but I still don't like it. Sometimes I'll like certain pieces for their color or feel, but on the whole most modern/abstract art to me is rubbish. And just what kind of artist is my watercolor teacher?
Abstract!

...Greeeaaaaaat. So what is our current assignment? Do at least 10 small abstract studies and use them to create one large piece. Bollocks.
Me and a classmate were pointing and squeaking at these adorable bunnies in a bush next to the art building. After the initial 'awwww' we both agreed that we hate the assignment, and that it must be some sort of karmic retribution for badmouthing abstract art so much. Ugh

Also, Degas' art up close is even prettier than in prints. Oh, and those famous Toulouse-Latrec posters? They are HUUUGGGEEE. I was surprised since you always seem them on a smaller scale.

I need cheesecake.

Happy Birthday to Meeeeeeee

Holy crap! I'm 23 as of... 4 minutes ago.

I feel ooooold. Anyways, school's going good so far. I'm taking English 102, Watercolor 101, and Physical Science 101. I already have 48 credits so that means after this quarter I only need 30 credits and I'll have my AA transfer degree. I just need to narrow down which university I want to transfer to.

English 102 is one big 10 page research paper. It's not that bad since you have 3 months to do it. But I had to choose the most depressing topic to write it on though. I chose 'pet overpopulation and no-kill shelters'. Book after book after article showing pictures of dead animals in large metal bins. I think I've made all my friends, classmates, teachers, and family utterly depressed too.

Watercolor is going pretty good though. It was giving me trouble in the beginning. Mixing paints isn't really difficult for me in most mediums, but with watercolor it can be a pain. It all depends on how much water is in your palette and how much water is already in your brush. We had to mix a perfect neutral gray using three specific colors. I swear for like 2 days straight i was utterly defeated by a COLOR. I could make purple. I could make brown. I could make green. But nooooo gray.

Not a whole lot going on right now. Sometime today I'm going to the Portland Art Museum. They have some Edgar Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec paintings on exhibit. I'm all exited.
Also at the end of the month I'm flying to Houston, TX for my sister's graduation. Four and a half hours... in a plane... once to get there... then another four and a half hours back home. That means I will probably spend around 9 hours total in planes that weekend. I think my brain is going to short circuit by the time I get back @_@
Not much art I can post. I've been doing too much art in class. I have this )
It has nudity in it so I hid it behind a cut. Hopefully I'll have some more to put up soon. :)

School Drools

*smashes head into desk*
So far all of my classes at Clark have been going well. I got an A on my first Women in History quiz, and sociology has been pretty easy since so far all we've done is lectures. But my World Literature class is looking to be the most ANNOYING class ever. It's alot of literature already covered in English 101, and we're going to read Hamlet later on (which is the most boring play written by Shakespeare in my opinion) but otherwise the works we're reading is pretty interesting. What's so annoying is my professor keeps giving the class 'Self Assessments' that make me want to tear my hair out. We've read alot of material, from love poetry to Machiavelli but in these self assessments we're supposed to, for example, speculate on how the authors of each of these varied works would respond to the possibilities of reason.

..... Quoi?

It's not stuff I can do my usual 'blah blah blah' routine on. I don't know, and after coming home from hours of school and then hours and hours of work I really don't care. But I've got to do it anyways. It took an hour of staring blankly at the screen for me to eventually even get around to writing anything. I like literature but it'll be a while before I take another lit class again. My brain is too literal thinking. If i don't have some kind of facts or ideas to go off of I draw a blank. @__@

In other news..... uh.... nothing? I've been doing alot of doodling but not much art. All I've had time for lately is school, work, and when i have a minute I'm rereading the Anita Blake series. And then pass out. My brain needs a vacation.

Cowboy Cream Soda

I haven't posted in almost a month. So saaaad. Just lots of stuff going on. Work was keeping me busy plus my butterfly pillowcases I've been embroidering. Then around Thanksgiving my grandparents moved back up here from Louisiana. Around the 22nd of December my sister Meaghan flew up here and I have been spoiling her since. I took her to see 'Enchanted' and now the soundtrack's playing in the house nonstop XD. We're so geeky. And we've been reading the Princess diaries books. They're CUTE dammit. I think i misspelled 'dammit' but that's what spellcheck says.
Not much new in the art department save for this:
Photobucket

She wanted me to do pictures of some of her characters so I started sketching. They're all crap but anytime i draw someone else's characters I need to play around a bit before they look right.
Starting this Monday I go back to Clark College. The only classes i could grab were a sociology, world literature, and women in history class. Both tres cool, but what I NEED to be taking is English, math, and science courses but they were all taken up since I was in the last group able to register. At this rate it will take me forever to graduate but I will know lots of fascinating information about Boadicea.

OMG I'm actually posting and with artwork! It's some kind of miracle. That sketch though is driving me nuts. I can't decide where I want to go with it. Ho Hum.

Just the usual stuff going on mostly. My entire family will be here for christmas which is kinda odd. I've also been addicted to reading Tanya Huff's 'Blood' books. They're very Anita Blake-ish... before all the smut.
That is all for now, I must take my leave and figure out what I want to try and cook/burn for dinner :D!

Cold

I'm not dead. I just have been busy either scrambling with people's birthday presents, or with a cold... that I still have. Which sucks.

Its more of a head cold and I have to go to work this afternoon. With my giant Rudolph the reindeer nose @___@. I've been busy with embroidery more than art lately. I've been itching to draw a few things but until i'm better that's gonna wait.

I'll post more when I can breathe out of my nose again.

Random

Ouron Host Club got licensed by Funimation!! Yaaaaaaay! Fruits Basket is still my favorite anime/manga but Ouron is a close second. WOO!

I've been busy with work and sewing and embroidery and cooking and.... just stuff. Sadly school still isn't back in the picture yet. I finally got some money to pay for school and it's right after the deadline to register and pay for the quarter ;o;. So I have to wait until December/January to go back.

I changed over from Cingular to Verizon Wireless last week. My new cell phone is bright lime neon green. It's so spiffy. It has fun software for ringtones too so i can't decide between some cheesy Disney song or random pop music to put on it. Decisions, decisions.

Sadly no new art. I've been really wanting to draw lately thanks to Becky Kelly though.... look her up on google. Her art is sooooooo cute. She almost makes me want to be a children's book illustrator. I might try some of that as a hobby sometime. Some of these newer children's books have really interesting artwork in them. Like 'The Red Tree', and 'The Moon Girl'. Not to mention ever since i saw the 'Ms. Potter' movie I'm completely in love with Beatrix Potter's artwork as well. *sigh*

Stuffu

I just finished watching Studio Ghibli's Tales from Earthsea movie. I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I would be. Considering some of the reviews I've read, they made it sound like a complete flop. The art and animation was definitely up to the usual Ghibli quality. The only thing I can point out that really bothered me was the pacing of the story at first. Later on in the movie it got better but the very beginning confused the hell out of me.
The movie could have been alooooot better though. Something about the story just didn't move me like most of Ghibli's work does. It's based off a book but from the author's own mouth, that's not really her story in the movie. It's been reworked alot. It didn't really have an emotional core to it.
It sure was gorgeous though *o*

Busy

I just found out that they released a spiffed up version of Slayers season one on dvd. Fangirling commenced. It's not bad enough I just watched all of Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yugi over again, they gotta bring that up.

I've been thinking of messing around with writing again. It seems since my art is in a rut, maybe if i try writing some scenes i'll be inspired to draw them.

'Can I Get Get Get' by Junior Senior is the catchiest song ever.

I'd think up other silly things to ramble about buy i'm too busy watching Saiunkoku Monogatari. It's pretty good <3.

Blah Blah Blah

I am such an Avatar: The Last Airbender fan it's sad. I finally got around to watching the trailer for season three, and nearly had a coronary. It's soooooooo beaauuuuuttiiffuulllll. I'm thinking of buying a giant Appa plush from the nickelodeon shop online. *geeks out*

I've been playing a lot of Persona 3 for the ps2. It's 80% dating sim, 20% dungeon crawler. With a kickASS soundtrack. I'm almost 15 hours into it but it's a 70 hour game @__@.

I ended up skipping the fall quarter this year. I just couldn't afford it without some kind of financial aid since my parents aren't paying for any of it. And it's a total joke that since i'm under 24, I'm not married or have children, and I'm not in the military I have to put my parents information. I DON'T LIVE WITH THEM AND THEY REFUSE TO PAY FOR MY SCHOOL. But I have to list information about them anyways. The law only says parents have to provide for their children until they're 18, so why does the government think as far as college every parent will be nice and still provide for them. Arrrgg.

Also, the name Vargi is still making me laugh. Meaghan it's all your fault! Also, if you're reading this megs I told mom I probably can't afford Japan by then. But maybe we can go somewhere else like Norway like i said, if you want to see your friend or something which might be cheaper. And have more english speaking people. With english signs. Somewhere. Or maybe just a big European tour. That'd be neat. I'll check online for info.

Umm... trying to think what to type. No new art. I've been doodling but nothing worth posting about. I'm in love with Bronze Zetsuai. It's so cheeeesssyyy and boy love stuffs. Hmm... Shakkazombie rocks. Uhhh... *running out of things to say*

I really want some cheesecake.

Never Over

Kanye West sampled Daft Punk's 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' for his single 'Stronger'. And I CAN'T STOP LISTENING. Even sampled, that song is my crack.

I've been really busy lately embroidering a pillow for my boyfriend's sister. It was a simple monogram with a flowery border underneath but it took foreeever to get the flowers done @_@. It's done though but no pictures since I have YET to buy a new usb cord for my camera ;o;. Fifty dollars just seems so high for a tiny little cord.

As far as art, I've only managed to doodle one thing in all this time:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I was bored on Niko's Paint chat and did this among a few other things. But this was the only one I put any effort into. It's some characters from an old story idea I had. I'm thinking of doing something with it and putting my other idea on hold. I've got 3 different story ideas I want to do in the immediate future but I can't decide in what format to put them in. Or in what order to do them in. I must have some sort of art ADD right now.

Oh, and Stardust was a really cute movie. It wasn't as good as I'd hoped (since I'd never read the original novel) but it was really cute. However, the image of Robert DeNiro in a tutu was far more frightening than Michelle Pfeiffer was.

Stuff and Eclipse

So I needed money and asked for extra shifts at work. HOOOLLLYYYY CRAAAAP. I've been working about a week straight without a day off. And yet I'm still broke ;O;!! How did it happen?!

As for art, I've been trying to do some traditional work. I think trying to sketch on the computer sometimes frustrates me and I get too easily distracted by a shiny web page or something. I really miss my watercolors as well.

WARNING: THIS PART OF THE ENTRY IS ALL BABBLE ABOUT A BOOK

Since the newest Anita Blake book I've been feeding my cravings with Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga. The third book in the series was just released on the 7th. I really loved the first two. But now that I've finished the third, there's a few things starting to bother me about it. For one, I understand that feeling when you first fall in love with someone. And especially should this person be some inhumanly gorgeous creature, you can believe a little obsession. But by the third book it starts to sound way overboard. It just sounds needy and clingy... and stupid.
For another, I really like Edward but I think after this third book I've become a hardcore Jacob fan. He's more fun. And he takes his clothes off <3. Even with all his mean little tricks I was completely rooting for him by the end. Such a shame. I'll definitely be reading the fourth book when it comes out to see what happens. But I really hope it tones down the obsessive relationship and at least gives Jacob a pleasant ending. He deserves it and I'd hate to see the series start off so good and then take a nosedive right towards the end.
Now I really wanna draw fanart :P

I've been watching entiiiirely too many Bollywood movies lately @__@. I can't stop singing random songs from them. For those confused, Bollywood = India's version of Hollywood. All the movies have nonstop song and dance numbers and the cheesiest plots ever. But I love them anyways <3.

I haven't been drawing much lately. I've been on pchat a bit and did these:

Not much, but i've been busy cleaning my bedroom and computer room. Oh, and I fully admit that I love Sailor Moon and that i am a GIGANTIC DORK for it. But i finally got to see the last season, Sailor Stars which was really good... but... uhhh.... 'Star Gentle Uterus' is the strangest attack cry I have ever heard. 'Star Gentle Uterus!' ...
